    Well said. I never keep secrets to protect my own ass, I always pass on every piece of knowledge or experience I have ever gained. That’s what keeps the wheels turning.

    Sorry to nitpick, but air or a whirlpool inducing air is not cavitation. Cavitation is when a liquid changes to a vapor state due to a change in pressure, as when a pump is trying to suck in a liquid but there is a restriction, which creates collapsing voids.

    The speed doesn’t amaze me, it’s the torque the tires and wheels handle and you never see a failure. Incredible.

    I thought about building a top fuel blender 20 years ago out of one of my windowed KB motors to sell margaritas at drag races but my lawyer and not having a liquor licence in every town they race in squelched that idea, PLUS fuel, oil, plugs, ice, booze, mix, towing, motels, bruton smith vender booth costs, etc a 20oz margarita would cost a customer $100 a pop so drag racing attendance falling off the last 10 years i decided to drop that idea.

    I know this is strictly top fuel stuff… but did the guys as star racer ever say anything like “our belts like more tension”? Only reason I’m asking is, I just put one on my 565 and set it up like my old rubber/nylon belt was slack wise. Now when I whack the throttle, you can see the “slack” side of the belt rise up off the blower pulley. Basically trying to jump teeth… Wondering if I need to run it a little tighter, or will it hurt anything. I definitely don’t want to stress the crank or blower snout…

    • @robwendland
      @robwendland Місяць тому

      Definitely run it a little tighter. Jumping a tooth is the kiss of death! Doubles the working tinsel strength and will break the belt.

    Hard work. Yep, it will be. Rewarding work? Yeah, I bet it is. But you have a multi-million dollar race team that pushes the very limits of what can be done in 1000ft. One mistake can be disasterous not only on race results, but also on the very lives of those on the team and in the stands. I helped out on a sportman team years ago. It was hard work and I had the easy job. I admire anybody who can do it for a living. I can't... but I can be a fan!

    I did wrench turning in the minor leagues of racing for 12 or so years. Met cool people, did a lot of cool things and in general I had fun……but it’s a grind. Long hours, stress, working weekends, especially holiday weekends and traveling the country visiting race tracks, truck stops and hotel rooms. Yes I traveled a lot but I literally only saw the track, the hotel or air bnb and a few truck stops along the way. When you’re living out of a toterhome with 3-4 other doods you shit n shower at truck stops or the race track, doing laundry is an ordeal and eating out all the time gets old. Anyone looking at getting into it, understand it’s not a job it’s a lifestyle.

    My advice to any applicant...Be careful what you wish for. I've lived it touring with a dirt late model team. The days get mighty long even if you're winning. Especially when you have a family at home. I wouldn't trade the memories for anything but it became too much. Rob you're spot on. Young and single? I'd say live your dream but remember its not as glamorous as it seems.

    Sounds to me like any good supervisor, lead foreman, whatever you want to call the person in charge of a crew, whether it's a small crew such as 4 to 5 individuals or someone who has 100 people under the one in charge of the operation. You teach those willing to learn, put the effort into whatever they're doing, and you try to teach them every aspect of the job, as well as why things are done this way. Also you put those willing to put in the hours with someone who will teach them what he knows specifically about the trade that he's good at during. Then you put that person or persons with another top hand, and repeat the lessons only with his perspective on his ways of doing things how the foreman, supervisor wants things done, because he's usually got a established memethodology for doing things that are proven to be productive and efficient in whatever she trade is. Being a construction worker supervisor superintendent however you chose to say it, I've worked more 12 to 10 hour days and many weekends that the average worker in most other types of jobs never see the amount of hours worked week after week for months nonstop. Takes different kind of person do do that like a lot of trades people do, especially in every type of weather condition you can imagine.. And not always are we on day shift as you get plenty of jobs where you can be on nights for who knows how long. My kids would get up every morning, and I was long gone, and they went to bed before I got home in the evening. It's hard on marriages, and it's hard on the kids equally hard on the one working those hours.. Yet that's how we support our families, and hopefully make it to where you can put them through college, and nice sum to retire on with the wife, or husband. So yeah partying all the time, halfass hung over doesn't cut it, because most of us do our jobs to the best of our ability, and those that do those types of things, aren't typically able to make it for reasons I don't have to explain
